Meet Our Acupuncturists, L.Ac.

Sheila Domantay, L.Ac. #AC13152Sheila Domantay, L.Ac. #AC13152

Sheila is a graduate of Pacific College of Oriental Medicine in San Diego, CA. She served as a hospital Corpsman in the Navy which gave her a lot of hands-on experience with patients. That experience inspired her to pursue a career in acupuncture. She wanted to stay in the medical field and offer her patients a medicine that is drug-free and proven to work.

Sheila’s favorite part of being an acupuncturist is when her patients give her “that look” when their pain is decreased.  She decided to join the Modern Acupuncture team because the mission statement “To Make Your Life Better” was inspirational and she likes that the model makes acupuncture accessible to all.

When she isn’t treating patients, Sheila enjoys learning new things, going to the beach and Lego Land with her family. She also enjoys off-roading with her husband.

Jenna Cotton, L.Ac., MSOM #15903Jenna Cotton, L.Ac., MSOM #15903

Jenna is a graduate of the Pacific College of Oriental Medicine in San Diego, CA. She decided to become an acupuncturist because in high school she had horrible headaches and jaw pain. Western medicine didn’t have many treatment options so she was led to acupuncture at a young age.  After receiving acupuncture, she felt her body change in profound ways and wanted to share this healing with more people.

What Jenna loves most about being an acupuncturist is being able to help people immediately with pain. She recognizes that pain is something that even the healthiest people can experience and it will throw their whole life off balance.

During a trip to Reno, Jenna happened across a Modern Acupuncture clinic and was immediately impressed by the state of the art design and treatments. She also believes that acupuncture should be available to everyone and likes that MA offers extremely cost effective payment options, enabling people to get the care they need.

When she isn’t treating patients, Jenna is an avid rock climber, hiker, and snowboarder. Anything that has to do with a forest or generally outside will make her happy. She is also a musician and enjoys playing guitar.

Tae Suk Oh, L.Ac. #AC11972Tae Suk Oh, L.Ac. #AC11972

Tae is a graduate of South Baylo University. He became an acupuncturist because he grew up with Oriental Medicine in South Korea. He was already naturally familiar with acupuncture and herbs. He saw and experienced a lot of great things with acupuncture from a very young age. His favorite part of being an acupuncturist is that he can treat a variety of symptoms and conditions in a natural, safe way. He also likes that the equipment requirements are minimal and it enables him to treat in nearly any environment.

Tae chose to be part of the Modern Acupuncture team because he like the clean and modern treatment space and that the methods used in the clinics are based on science and easy to implement.

When he isn’t treating patients, Tae enjoys golfing and traveling.

Ashley Barandiaran, L.Ac. Ashley Barandiaran, L.Ac.

Ashley is a graduate of the Pacific College of Oriental Medicine in San Diego. She was introduced to alternative medicine at a young age, and it inspired her to do something within the field. She was led to acupuncture after a personal experience with a neck injury. She saw the quality of care that acupuncture offered and its ability to integrate both Eastern and Western medicine. She feels that it genuinely treats all aspects required for healing body, mind, and spirit.

Ashley loves being an acupuncturist because it is a preventative health modality that works to treat current medical needs naturally, safely, and effectively. She loves to empower her patients and also acts as a conduit for their healing journey. She finds it very rewarding to provide quality care by integrating Western science with Traditional Chinese Medicine, adapting a 3000-year-old medicine to current medical needs.

Ashley joined the Modern Acupuncture team to have the opportunity to learn from experts in the field and learn methods that are quick, science-based, and efficient. Working at Modern Acupuncture allows her to treat a greater number of patients while also educating and promoting the benefits of acupuncture to the public.

When she isn’t treating patients, Ashley enjoys being active and outdoors. She loves to travel, camp, do Pilates, go to live music events and dance. Being a third-generation San Diegan, she also enjoys being involved in the community and volunteering. She is deeply connected to her Portuguese roots. She enjoys being on the Portuguese historical board and being a member of the folklore dance group.

I have been going to MA for about 3 weeks now and I am impressed. The staff is courteous and professional and I feel a very noticeable difference in how I feel overall. My pain has decreased greatly and I generally feel less stressed. Highly recommend!

Nancy S. (San Diego, CA) - 5/11/2019

The most relaxing half hour you will spend- great practitioners and feeling improvement in my knee and hip pain. The cosmetic acupuncture is diminishing facial lines.

Laura C. (San Diego, CA) - 4/28/2019

Friendly, helpful and caring people work here. All really listen and care to know and understand what your issues are and then eager to monitor your progress.

Brandon A. (San Diego, CA) - 4/27/2019

Sheila was amazing, I didn't feel pressured to do anything I didn't want to do. It was my first time and I enjoyed it.

Raymond J. (San Diego, CA) - 4/21/2019

I have started my first couple of sessions and I am very pleased with the results. I travel for a living and tend to have issues with sleep and tension throughout my entire body. Since then I have had excellent results! I highly recommend Modern Acupuncture, the bonus here is that the staff is incredibly nice and very helpful in helping aid you in a much happier, healthy lifestyle.
