Joel is a graduate of Bastyr University in Kenmore, WA. As a 3rd generation acupuncturist, Joel was influenced by Chinese medicine at a young age. Whenever he was sick, his father would treat him with acupuncture and/or Chinese herbs and he would feel better. As he got older, he became more curious about Chinese medicine and decided to pursue a career in the field.
What Joel loves most about being an acupuncturist is that he gets to help patients improve their quality of life in ways other modalities cannot. The holistic nature of Chinese medicine allows him to treat the person, not the disease.
Joel joined the Modern Acupuncture team because he was really drawn to the concept of community where multiple patients can be treated in one setting. He was also drawn to the calming atmosphere and the openness of the Zen Den, instead of a confining room like that of a traditional acupuncture clinic.
When he isn’t treating patients, Joel enjoys spending time outdoors, whether it be hiking, camping, or golfing. He’s also a foodie and likes to try new restaurants and to bbq at home.
Lucia is a graduate of the Seattle Institute of Oriental Medicine in Seattle, WA. She was always drawn to healing in the most natural and pure forms. She fell in love with Chinese medical theory and its ability to help the body overcome chronic and acute illnesses. Her favorite part of being an acupuncturist is seeing people get better and giving them the tools to live a well-balanced, happy and healthy life.
Lucia decided to join the Modern Acupuncture team because she was attracted to the tranquil and relaxing environment that it provides for patients. It’s like an escape from the stress of modern life.
When she isn’t treating patients, Lucia enjoys hiking, camping, skiing, traveling and spending time with her husband.
Julia is a graduate of the Florida College of Integrative Medicine. When she was introduced to the principles of East Asian Medicine, it just made sense to her: if the body’s balance is restored, healing naturally occurs. Acupuncture was instrumental in her own healing process, and after experiencing profound results, she knew she had to learn more and share it with others.
Her favorite part of being an acupuncturist is helping people find more freedom and ease in their bodies, contributing to happier, healthier living.
While acupuncture is an ancient medical practice, it is still relatively new to American culture. Julia believes that Modern Acupuncture is at the forefront of educating the public on the science behind acupuncture and its myriad of benefits. She is proud to part of the movement that is making acupuncture accessible to all.
When she isn’t treating patients, Julia enjoys spending time in nature and hiking with her dogs. She has a regular yoga and meditation practice and loves to cook. Travel is a lifelong passion; Julia seeks new places, people, experiences, and cuisines. Overall, she loves variety, and welcomes anything that will enhance the joys of life!

Love the spa like setting and chairs. The whole experience is first class and the staff is always welcoming. Coming here is one of my highlights of the week.
The front desk staff is very welcoming and professional. My session is always relaxing and more importantly, I leave pain free and get the results I came in for. The whole experience from start to finish is first class. I love leaving with my cup of tea and I always look forward to returning.
One of my favorite new cosmetic treatments. I've been looking for an alternative to botox for fine lines and wrinkles and am thrilled to have found Modern Acupuncture. Not only am I seeing amazing results I can't wait to go to my session- the staff is friendly and the treatment room is so relaxing and calming. I feel like I'm in a spa. Best treatment I've had in a long time.
Great staff and location! I was concerned about how much benefit I could get from only a 30 minute session, but it was very relaxing. I will be back!
