Meet Our Acupuncturists, L.Ac.

Terry M Heaps, OMD, L.Ac. #104075Terry M Heaps, OMD, L.Ac. #104075

Terry attended the American College of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine in Houston Texas. She was inspired to become an acupuncturist by her mentor in Martial Arts who was also an acupuncturist, and thought she would be great at it. Terry loves that acupuncture can alleviate the pain and suffering of patients without burdening them with side effects. She choose to become part of the Modern Acupuncture team in Glendale because she believes that the quality control and vision will advance acupuncture and make it mainstream. Outside of work, Terry loves to teach Martial Arts, do DIY projects, and do outdoor activities such as archery.

Shannan R Walker, DACM, L.Ac, #1064Shannan R Walker, DACM, L.Ac, #1064

Shannan attended the Pacific College of Oriental Medicine to become a licensed acupuncturist, and then went on to get her Masters and Doctorate in Chinese Medicine in Chicago IL and San Diego CA. She decided to become an acupuncturist because she is passionate about helping people live in a healthy way. The thing she enjoys the most about her job is making people feel their best. Shannan decided to become a part of the Modern Acupuncture team in Glendale so she could help more people heal in the most efficient amount of time. Outside of work she enjoys reading, and says she practically lives in the library. You can also find her outdoors hiking the Arizona trails.

Cindi Poppe, L.Ac. #1019Cindi Poppe, L.Ac. #1019

Cindi started school in Denver, CO at the Colorado School of Traditional Chinese Medicine (CSTCM) then moved to Tucson to transfer to Arizona School of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (ASAOM), receiving a Master’s in Acupuncture with additional certification in Tui-Na (AOBTA) and Cosmetic Acupuncture.  In addition to her acupuncture training, Cindi is also a Certified Healing Touch Practitioner and Certified Manual Lymph Drainage Therapist.

While vacationing on a cruise, Cindi attended a 2-day seminar on acupuncture and received a treatment for chronic back pain. She was amazed at the results, leaving her with zero pain overnight! She loved hearing about the history and the education required and enrolled in acupuncture school a few months later.

Working in western medicine for over 20 years led Cindi to search for an alternative method of healing.  Not only for herself but for the patients she saw stuck in the same rut of medications and surgery. After experiencing my her own amazing result with acupuncture, she wanted to help others learn and experience this wonderful medicine and heal naturally as the body is designed to do.

Cindi decided to become part of the Modern Acupuncture team to have an opportunity to share acupuncture with as many people as possible.

When she isn’t treating patients, Cindi loves to be outdoors in nature; hiking, walking or spending time with her grandchildren. She also enjoys teaching acupuncture classes at the local community college and retirement communities.

Avery Erickson, L.Ac. #10025Avery Erickson, L.Ac. #10025

Avery attended what was originally the American College of Traditional Chinese Medicine in San Francisco, CA. This institution merged with another major institution and his degree was issued by The California Institute of Integral Studies. He also studied and worked in Chinese hospitals, in Zhengzhou, Henan Province as part of advanced clinical training. He is currently a doctoral student in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine at Five Branches University in CA.

Avery had many life experiences that suggested that offering healing through this tradition was his next calling in life. Chinese medicine helped him personally with a variety of health conditions, going back as far as his pre-teens in which his grandfather performed acupuncture on him. His grandfather was an MD and pediatrician, and an early adopter of acupuncture in the United States. He helped to spearhead acupuncture in the Kaiser Permanente system.

His favorite part of being an acupuncturist is getting to meet people at a vulnerable space in their lives and provide an invaluable service that both eases their suffering and empowers them with information and practices to better care for themselves.

He decided to join the Modern Acupuncture team because It affords him the flexibility to participate in other areas of his life, including doctoral studies, as well as co-parenting.

In his free time Avery enjoys creative writing (poetry and short story, creative non-fiction, mostly), hiking, and playing the ukulele and the tablas.
