Meet Our Acupuncturists, L.Ac.

Terry M Heaps, OMD, L.Ac. #104075Terry M Heaps, OMD, L.Ac. #104075

Terry attended the American College of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine in Houston Texas. She was inspired to become an acupuncturist by her mentor in Martial Arts who was also an acupuncturist, and thought she would be great at it. Terry loves that acupuncture can alleviate the pain and suffering of patients without burdening them with side effects. She choose to become part of the Modern Acupuncture team in Glendale because she believes that the quality control and vision will advance acupuncture and make it mainstream. Outside of work, Terry loves to teach Martial Arts, do DIY projects, and do outdoor activities such as archery.

Shannan R Walker, DACM, L.Ac, #1064Shannan R Walker, DACM, L.Ac, #1064

Shannan attended the Pacific College of Oriental Medicine to become a licensed acupuncturist, and then went on to get her Masters and Doctorate in Chinese Medicine in Chicago IL and San Diego CA. She decided to become an acupuncturist because she is passionate about helping people live in a healthy way. The thing she enjoys the most about her job is making people feel their best. Shannan decided to become a part of the Modern Acupuncture team in Glendale so she could help more people heal in the most efficient amount of time. Outside of work she enjoys reading, and says she practically lives in the library. You can also find her outdoors hiking the Arizona trails.

Cindi Poppe, L.Ac. #1019Cindi Poppe, L.Ac. #1019

Cindi started school in Denver, CO at the Colorado School of Traditional Chinese Medicine (CSTCM) then moved to Tucson to transfer to Arizona School of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (ASAOM), receiving a Master’s in Acupuncture with additional certification in Tui-Na (AOBTA) and Cosmetic Acupuncture.  In addition to her acupuncture training, Cindi is also a Certified Healing Touch Practitioner and Certified Manual Lymph Drainage Therapist.

While vacationing on a cruise, Cindi attended a 2-day seminar on acupuncture and received a treatment for chronic back pain. She was amazed at the results, leaving her with zero pain overnight! She loved hearing about the history and the education required and enrolled in acupuncture school a few months later.

Working in western medicine for over 20 years led Cindi to search for an alternative method of healing.  Not only for herself but for the patients she saw stuck in the same rut of medications and surgery. After experiencing my her own amazing result with acupuncture, she wanted to help others learn and experience this wonderful medicine and heal naturally as the body is designed to do.

Cindi decided to become part of the Modern Acupuncture team to have an opportunity to share acupuncture with as many people as possible.

When she isn’t treating patients, Cindi loves to be outdoors in nature; hiking, walking or spending time with her grandchildren. She also enjoys teaching acupuncture classes at the local community college and retirement communities.

Steven Brieske L.Ac. #010047Steven Brieske L.Ac. #010047

Steven attended the Arizona School of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine. His educational background is a graduate degree in Chemistry M.S.. While working as a research chemist in the pharmaceutical industry, he became sick with a seasonal flu and what he thought was laryngitis. He soon got over the flu, but didn’t get his voice back. After several weeks he went to the Harvard Medical Center in Boston, only to find out he had paralysis of the vocal chords. The doctor told him that there was nothing he could do and that it would possibly take 1-3 years to see any progress in getting his voice back. After a friend suggested acupuncture, Steven was curious to see if it would work for him. He stayed consistent with the treatment plan the acupuncturist gave him and after six weeks, he had his voice back! Upon his return for a follow up to the Harvard Medical Center, the doctor was amazed at the quick and full recovery Steven had experienced through acupuncture. This experience inspired Steven to become an acupuncturist.

Seeing the healing results in his patients is what Steven loves most about being an acupuncturist. During acupuncture school he learned of facial rejuvenation acupuncture, and decided to attend some workshops to try it for himself. After implementing facial acupuncture into his treatments, he enjoyed seeing his patients happy with glowing and radiant smiles.

Steven decided to become part of the Modern Acupuncture team because he was impressed with the clinic and experience from start to finish, and wanted to work with it’s very knowledgeable staff and practitioners. Another reason he wanted to be part of the team is because Modern Acupuncture’s methods are science based and research proven. Steven says it’s a great place to work whole doing what he loves to do.  Outside of work, he enjoys exploring the great outdoors! This includes everything from skiing and hiking in the mountains to enjoying sports at the beach. Steven is an avid motorcyclist, adventurer and pilot.
