Celebrate Women's Health in May
National Women’s Health week kicks off on Mother's Day, May 12 and goes until May 18th. This week is an opportunity for all women to celebrate their health and focus on making improvements to ensure a long and vibrant life. While one week is a great start, we encourage all women to make their health a focus every single day.
Women are more likely to suffer from common diseases than men.
Did you know that women are more often prone to major diseases than men? This includes depression, anxiety, stroke, autoimmune disease and thyroid disorders. It’s also been noted that women make up two-thirds of patients diagnosed with Alzheimer’s.
So, what’s the deal? Did women just draw the chromosomal short stick and are doomed to a life less healthy than their male counterparts? Or, is there more to the story?
Many of the diseases that strike both men and women are largely due to unmanaged stress
. Women especially, are under more stress than ever before. There seems to be a constant pressure to be “on” and to be perfect in every aspect of their lives. Women often feel like they have to be an attentive, caring and never-miss-a-school-activity mother in addition to excelling in their career, maintaining a pristine household and somehow also be a loving and supporting wife and friend. Being the natural nurturers that they are, women tend to put all these things higher on the priority list than their own health and well-being. Sound familiar?
Over time the constant stress begins to manifest in symptoms such as:
- Poor sleep
- Weight gain
- Irregular periods
- Frequent illness
If you are already experiencing some of these symptoms, recognize them as your body’s way of saying “enough is enough.” Or, if you know that you are under a great deal of stress, take action before the symptoms set in. Use National Women’s Health week as your motivator to get back on the path to optimal health.
Acupuncture can help
There’s no better way to help relieve stress and the symptoms associated with it, than a soothing acupuncture treatment. Studies have shown that acupuncture is effective at mitigating the stress response. This can potentially help improve sleep, regulate mood, boost immunity and even relieve some of the discomfort associated with menstruation.
Beauty with benefits
Your time is your most valuable asset. Save time by combining your beauty and wellness treatments. With Cosmetic Acupuncture you receive all the health benefits of Traditional Acupuncture with the added bonus of an anti-aging treatment. Cosmetic acupuncture enhances blood flow to the face, balances out uneven muscle tone and stimulates the production of collagen, resulting in a more rested appearance, hydrated skin and diminished appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Now you can cross two things off your list!
