Meet Our Acupuncturists, L.Ac.

Joe Phiakhamta MAcOM, L.Ac #TN310Joe Phiakhamta MAcOM, L.Ac #TN310

Joe attended the AOMA Graduate School of Integrative Medicine. After suffering from a lingering viral infection and taking prescribed and over-the-counter medication that was not helping him get better, he knew he had to try something different but wasn’t entirely aware of the options available to him. During a discussion with a physician friend, he was introduced to acupuncture. Joe loves working closely with patients through the healing process. He believes personal interaction allows a patient to share their state of health, wellness and disease including mind, spirit, lifestyle, and physical being to best serve the patient. Modern Acupuncture’s mission of serving and making life better for the masses and providing an affordable, safe and restful atmosphere is what made Joe decide to become part of the Modern Acupuncture team. Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with his family, dog, doing Qi Gong, Tai Chi, mountain biking, hiking, and cooking Asian cuisine.

Rachelle Smith, L.Ac., #362Rachelle Smith, L.Ac., #362

Rachelle attended acupuncture school at the Florida College of Integrative Medicine. She decided to become an acupuncturist when she was half way through her pre-med degree and realized that most of her classmates were more interested in the degree than being able to work with patients on what she believes to be the most important part of their life- their health. She began to do her research and found a medicine that truly encompassed when she believed offered true healing- acupuncture and Oriental Medicine. The thing she loves most about being an acupuncturist is “having an infinite tool kit to help patients.” She loves that she has access to a medicine that is both powerful and gentle, and she gets to guide her patients toward their health goals. Rachelle decided to become a part of the Modern Acupuncture team because it allows her to focus on her patients and give the gift of health to more people without sacrificing patient care. Moving to Nashville to be close to her husband’s family was also a bonus for her. Outside of work, Rachelle and her husband enjoy being in the woods hiking waterfalls and camping under the stars. They have also extended their love of outdoors to their 4 year old son, who has been camping since he was 6 months old.

Amy M. Gresl, L.Ac #TN276Amy M. Gresl, L.Ac #TN276

Amy is a graduate of Midwest College of Oriental Medicine.  She decided to become an acupuncturist after initially touring her school for a nutrition program.  Part of the tour included a free acupuncture treatment.  After her first treatment, the back pain she had for over 20 years subsided for five full days. She wanted to sign up and learn more about it immediately!

Her favorite part about being an acupuncturist is that she can help others heal themselves in a natural way without the use of medication.

She joined the Modern Acupuncture team because she was very impressed by the peaceful setting, the more modern, scientific approach to acupuncture.  She was also excited to put her cosmetic acupuncture skills to work.

When she isn’t treating patients, Amy is an avid crafter. She enjoys crochet, painting, jewelry making, and woodworking.  She also enjoys antiquing, cycling, boating and going out for Mexican, Chinese or Thai food.

Considering this was my first "community experience" with acupuncture, I was pleasantly surprised. The front desk person was knowledgeable, and the treatment specialist was kind. Also, the environment was clean and there were tons of Covid precautions in place. I'd say it's worth a try if you are on the fence.

Michael C. (Brentwood, TN) - 10/23/2020

I started sessions here for stress, anxiety, nerve damage, and muscle aches. My only experience with acupuncture prior to this was an experimental program the Army had for soldiers suffering from TBI (Traumatic Brain Injury) and PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder). While the program was effective, it didn't last forever. Modern Acupuncture has been a life-saver. The sessions are painless, and I feel real relief. Today I walked out feeling ten years younger. I was pain free and mentally focused. I can't say enough good things about the staff and facility. It's a positive experience from the smile and greeting you receive at the door to the professional acupuncturist who will literally change your life. I look forward to treatment here for years to come.

Modern Acupuncture was my first experience with acupuncture. From the moment I walked in, I felt at ease. The staff is very welcoming and explained the process...making note of why I was there and how this could help. In addition, I really love the vibe of the studio. It's very relaxing and perfect for a moment of zen.

Makenzie H. (Brentwood, TN) - 10/18/2019

Amazing amazing amazing! I can’t begin to express the relief Amy and her team at Modern Acupuncture gave me. I went in with pain from fibromyalgia and chronic migraines and left feeling better than I have in years. I was lucky enough to get immediate relief and my boyfriend got relief from his back and neck pain as well. Highly recommend Modern Acupuncture to anyone, there are benefits to reap for all!!!

Kate V. (Brentwood, TN) - 10/18/2019

I visited Modern Acupuncture for labor induction. After two sessions (2 days in a row), contractions started. Contractions were 6 minutes apart during my third session and baby was born less than 12 hours later! So thankful for the knowledgeable staff and the very reasonable package pricing options.
