Meet Our Acupuncturists, L.Ac.

J.A. Lazarus Ph.D., L.Ac., MAcOM, AOBTA-MQ, Dipl. O.M. (NCCAOM) #AC01727J.A. Lazarus Ph.D., L.Ac., MAcOM, AOBTA-MQ, Dipl. O.M. (NCCAOM) #AC01727

J.A. is a graduate of AOMA Graduate School of Integrative Medicine in Austin, TX. She became an acupuncturist because she had a fascination with the underlying philosophy of Chinese Medicine, particularly as it was defined by a contemporary Daoist Master, Jeffrey Yuen. The philosophy strongly shaped the development of her doctoral theory.

J.A. loves many aspects of being an acupuncturist, but she especially loves that she is able to assist and participate in each of her patient’s unique path to serene, pain and stress-free “balance.” She feels that it is an honor to be part of their progress toward thriving vitality and “health-full longevity.”

J.A joined the Modern Acupuncture team because she believes that the mission and the “healthcare reimagined” operating model are critically timely and ideally suited to meet the significant, pressing needs in our diverse population. The effective, affordable, accessible “whole-human” supportive care, reduction of stress and promotion of health is needed now more than ever.

When she isn’t treating patients, you can find J.A. continuing her studies in Chinese Medicine, urban farming, cooking, practicing Taiji and QiGong, learning Mandarin, spending time with family and friends and gratefully living a “3 Good Dogs” life.

Yi-Chiann (Iris) Wu, Lic.Ac., MSAOMYi-Chiann (Iris) Wu, Lic.Ac., MSAOM

Yi-Chiann is a graduate of the Texas Health and Science University in San Antonio, Texas. She was born and raised in Taiwan. She got her physical therapy license and worked as a physical therapist for two years after graduating from China Medical University. She moved to the United States to expand her knowledge of academic research in Kinesiology.  Later she discovered that physical therapy and Chinese Medicine made a very powerful combination, so she decided to study Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine as well. Now, she is able to include both Western and Eastern medicine in her practice.

Yi-Chiann specializes in sports injury, nerve re-education, and pain management due to her background in physical therapy and Kinesiology. She also has a great interest in treating mental and emotional concerns such as stress, anxiety, and insomnia.  Her philosophy is to do whatever she can to help people live healthier lives. The treatments she provides are aimed to help her patients move toward the state of health and balance.

Dr. Justin Phillips, MSTCM, DAOM, CMQ, CFS, L.Ac.Dr. Justin Phillips, MSTCM, DAOM, CMQ, CFS, L.Ac.

Dr. Justin completed his Master's degree at the American College of Traditional Chinese Medicine in San Francisco. He also completed a Doctorate in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine at the AOMA Graduate school of Integrative Medicine in Austin, TX. He began studying meditation and martial arts at age five. At ten, he started studying Tai Chi and Qigong specifically. In college, he studied Western emergency medicine. All of that came together for him when he attended an open house at an acupuncture school. He realized that he could practice medicine, but based on the philosophies and holism that he cultivated in his own life, and share those things with others.

To Dr. Justin, medicine and life are a great mystery. He knows we will never solve them, but he loves the act of trying. With Chinese medicine, the system is rich enough to describe almost anything, from a basic health complaint up to complex world events. He loves the process of examining life through the lens of the medicine he practices and always learning and discovering more about himself, the world around him, and his patients

Dr. Justin joined the Modern Acupuncture team for the ability to practice medicine without the worries of marketing and business management. This frees him up to focus on other work within the field, such as research and authorship. He looks forward to the volume of patients, as he believes that acupuncture can help a lot more people than it is currently reaching. Modern Acupuncture offers an excellent platform for doing that.

Outside of treating patients, Dr. Justin is a rock climber and obstacle course racer. He is also also a writer and has published two books, one a textbook on Chinese Medicine, and one a fiction novel.
