Meet Our Acupuncturists, L.Ac.

Matthew Wadsworth L.Ac. TLMatthew Wadsworth L.Ac. TL

Matthew is a graduate of Texas Health and Sciences University.  He originally started college as a biology pre-med major with the goal of becoming an M.D. because he wanted to be able to help people. Throughout the course of his studies he worked at various medical practices and became concerned about the side effects of the pharmaceuticals being prescribed to patients. He discovered Chinese medicine and fulfilled his desire to help people, but without side effects.  He is very happy that he decided to go that route!

His favorite part of being an acupuncturist is helping people feel better without invasive procedures or harmful side-effects.  He has a particularly vivid memory of a patient he saw while he was in school who came in walking with a cane and left swinging the cane over her head in delight and relief.

He chose to be part of the Modern Acupuncture team because the likes the vision of bringing acupuncture to as many people as possible.

Outside of work, Matthew enjoys meditation, yoga, walking, reading and spending time with friends and family.

Dr. Kayla DeShane, DAcOM, L.Ac. TX #AC01816, MAcOM, NCCAOM DiplomateDr. Kayla DeShane, DAcOM, L.Ac. TX #AC01816, MAcOM, NCCAOM Diplomate

Kayla has been interested in medicine and helping people heal from a young age, declaring herself “pre-med” in middle school. She received her Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition Science from the University of Texas at Austin with focuses in Human Anatomy & Physiology. While applying to medical schools, Kayla worked at a retinal surgery center and realized she wanted to pursue a more holistic approach to treating the imbalances of the body. Kayla received both her Master’s and Doctorate degrees from AOMA Graduate School of Integrative Medicine in
Austin, TX. While at school, she was part of the inaugural resident group treating veterans at the Austin Outpatient Clinic as part of a collaboration with the Central Texas Veterans Health Care System. Her doctoral dissertation focused on the importance of acupuncture’s role in pain management for those with opioid dependence. Kayla loves how acupuncture taps into the body’s natural ability to heal itself throughout all the body systems.

Kayla decided to join the team at Modern Acupuncture because she loves the idea of presenting acupuncture from a modern perspective. She believes that demystifying this ancient medicine and making it more accessible and affordable to the public will ultimately help so many more people.

Kayla has always been active as a swimmer, runner, cyclist, and has been practicing yoga for over 15 years. In her spare time, Kayla loves eating, hiking, and camping around Texas with her husband and their energetic Border collie/Aussie pup!

Christine attended the AOMA Graduate School of Integrative Medicine in Austin, TX.

She developed interest andpassion in helping people in a natural way and improving the awareness of preventive care when she was in college. In her senior year, she interned with an acupuncturist for a project, and I was amazed and persuaded by the effectiveness of this medicine to become an acupuncturist herself. Christine loves that she is able to help her patients with their physical pain in a holistic approach. She decided to become part of the Modern Acupuncture team because she loves how it provides an accessible and affordable alternative option of healthcare.

Outside of work, Christine enjoys spending time with family and friends, watching movies, and trying out new classes and workshops.

Danielle C. (Dallas, TX) - 10/13/2019

I can't say enough good things about Modern Acupuncture. I am nearing the end of my first trimester and discovered MA when I was about 7 weeks pregnant. I was suffering with the worst nausea I have ever experienced, sleeplessness, and constipation (sorry if this is TMI). Acupuncture has been essential for helping me feel like a normal person. After just 1 week, my nausea was more manageable, BM's more frequent, and sleep more sound. Side note, don't expect acupuncture to work in one visit. I went every day for the first week and every other day for the second. By the third week, I could essentially go as needed. The entire team is utterly amazing. Dr. Blake, Dr. Kayla, and Henry always take excellent care of me and make me feel heard and cared for. I highly recommend MA for anyone who may be considering acupuncture as an alternative therapy for pregnancy related symptoms, pain, etc.

This place is AMAZING!! Dr. Blake is the best part of it. Her technique relaxes to no end. All of your pain, stress, anxiety and fears will melt away with one touch from her. This was my first experience with acupuncture and she made sure I felt at ease and blew me away with how all of my issues were immediately non issues with one touch of her needles. I couldn’t believe how painless it was. I’m in love. So looking forward to my next session. There’s nothing better than this. Please try it out. You will not be sorry.
