Meet Our Acupuncturists, L.Ac.

Dana Becker, MSTCM, L.Ac., #AC17527Dana Becker, MSTCM, L.Ac., #AC17527

Dana is a graduate of the American College of Traditional Chinese Medicine in San Francisco, CA. Her path to becoming an acupuncturist began when she had the worst hip pain and nothing was helping.  After two cortisone shots and little relief, she found acupuncture. After only four treatments she felt so much better.  She also noticed that her menstrual pain was completely gone. She was amazed and hooked and wanted to learn as much as she could about the medicine and also how to help more women have pain-free cycles.

The thing Dana loves most about being an acupuncturist is watching people who have been in so much pain get back to enjoying their lives.  She loves that she gets to help people feel relaxed and supported in this crazy world.

Dana joined the Modern Acupuncture team because she likes that the methods used in the clinics are science-based and that there is a team of people working together.  She feels connected to the mission to get as many people as possible to experience acupuncture.

When she isn’t treating patients, Dana enjoys hiking and riding her bike, and anything else that gets her outside.  She regularly harvests wild plants and makes medicines from them. She likes knowing what is in season and in her neighborhood.  She also loves writing and playing music on the ukulele and guitar.

Milissa Gillen, L.Ac. Milissa Gillen, L.Ac.

When Milissa was in college, she read a book called Between Heaven and Earth for a writing class research paper. The book was about Chinese Medicine and so eloquently described the background philosophy behind the Eastern approach to understanding illness and healing. She was instantly intrigued and started reading as much as she could about Chinese philosophy. She has always felt drawn to become a healer but did not want to go the traditional allopathic route. When she discovered that she could become an acupuncturist, the decision was apparent.

Milissa loves the simplicity of acupuncture treatments, and the fact that every person she treats will undoubtedly feel better when they leave. She loves that acupuncture is both an art and a science and that there are no side effects. She enjoys making connections with people that are meaningful and knowing at the end of her workday, she has made a positive difference in somebody's life.

Milissa joined the Modern Acupuncture team because after years in private practice she decided that she enjoys working with a team much more. She was looking for job opportunities where she would be able to do her work as a healer, and not take the work of the business home with her at the end of the day. Also, when she learned that Modern Acupuncture utilizes the Distal Treatment protocols developed by Bob Doane, she was intrigued. She had spent many years in postgraduate study learning similar methods and they were the methods she primarily used in practice. It was appealing to her that she could apply what she had learned, in a clinic where she has a support team and colleagues to share in the experience. She also likes that Modern Acupuncture is committed to the highest standards and always looking for ways to excel and take this profession to the next level.

Milissa is a nature lover at heart. Everything she loves to do revolves around being in the wilderness. She feels that the wilderness is a healing space, and it is her church. She has extensive experience with long-distance backpacking, and if she is not out on an overnight trip, you can find her out on a day hike or a trail run. She also loves to write and keeps a trail blog that she updates regularly. She enjoys sharing the stories and photos from her adventures with others in hopes of inspiring them to get outside and enjoy the health and healing benefits of nature more often. Milissa also practices WTF Taekwondo and is a 2nd Degree Black Belt. She has been training in Taekwondo for the past eight years.

Sandhya Sathyanarayana, L.Ac. #AC18233Sandhya Sathyanarayana, L.Ac. #AC18233

Sandhya is a graduate of Five Branches University in San Jose, CA. Growing up, she always wanted to be a medical professional. When she moved to the US, she pursued studies in computer science. However, her inner calling was to be a medical practitioner. She found acupuncture and Chinese medicine to be a fascinating and very compelling science. She pursued her Masters in Acupuncture and got her license to practice in the state of CA. Now, as a practitioner, she feels this has been her destiny all along.

Sandhya is a true believer that the best karma is in helping others. Being an Acupuncturist provides her an opportunity to do her best every day to help patients heal. That's what she loves most in her profession.

Sandhya joined the Modern acupuncture team because the model provides holistic care, using simple, yet very effective methods. These methods are well suited for this day and age. She likes the treatment methodology and team spirit, with the greatest focus on patient care.

When she isn't treating patients, Sandhya enjoys singing, healthy living, yoga, and spending time with her kids.
