Melissa attended the Pacific College of Oriental Medicine- San Diego. She decided to become an acupuncturist after receiving acupuncture herself for chronic neck pain. She fell in love with the relaxing and healing powers of Chinese Medicine. Not only did her neck pain immediately improve, but she also felt a sense of peace that she needed to explore. The thing that Melissa loves the most about being an acupuncturist is helping others to achieve a natural pain free life. She believes pain is exhausting and she loves supporting her patient’s bodies as they heal and restore themselves. Melissa decided to become a part of the Modern Acupuncture team in Reno because Nevada is a very underserved state when it comes to acupuncture, and she believes that Modern Acupuncture in Reno is bringing awareness of this incredible medicine at a reasonable price. Outside of work, Melissa enjoys working out, yoga, spending time with her niece and nephew, wine tasting, reading, baking and gardening.
Nicholas attended Pacific College of Oriental Medicine in San Diego, CA focusing on sports medicine and spinal cord injury. His interest in traditional Chinese medicine was sparked after being diagnosed with Lyme disease and receiving acupuncture and herbal therapies for management of pain. Nicholas enjoys the practice of Chinese medicine because it is a gentle, natural approach to healthcare that has the ability to deliver information to specific body tissues that are hard to reach with other modalities. Nicholas has joined the Modern Acupuncture team in Reno because he is excited about bringing affordable, accessible, approachable acupuncture to the community, and increasing awareness of Chinese medicine overall. In his leisure time, Nicholas likes to climb and explore the canyons throughout Nevada, Utah and Arizona. He draws (or attempts to draw) the birds he sees while out exploring. Nicholas is a voracious reader who rereads books he loves and he also enjoys punk rock, running and has a decent meditation practice.
Arianne, born and raised in Reno NV, attended Beijing Chinese Medicine University in Beijing, China. Her first desire to study Chinese Medicine started when she was in high school. A gynecologist recommended she take the birth control pill to bring regularity to her periods. The idea of taking synthetic hormones to make her body not ovulate in order to regulate her periods seemed completely illogical to her. She therefore searched for other methods of treatment and fell in love with the Chinese Medicine approach to healing - treating the root cause and not just the symptoms. She then figured out she would have to study Chinese medicine in order to make herself and the world she lived in healthier.
She chose to join the Modern Acupuncture team so she could be based in her hometown and also to become an expert in distal needling - the main technique used at Modern Acupuncture. She is a huge fan of Dr. Bob Doane who developed this treatment method.
Acupuncture aside, Annie loves to grow, cook and eat food. She will also play badminton anytime, anywhere, an interest she acquired while living in China and wishes there was more in the USA.
She looks forward to treating her community with the medicine she believes in and greatly respects.
